Hidden treasures in downtown Toronto

When you first visit the financial district it can be easy to be overwhelmed by the giants that line the streets.  Buildings tower above, dominating the skyline with their uniformity and functionality.  Downtown is beautiful in a very business-like way.

But when you start to look a little closer, you begin to find all kinds of little gems that you wouldn’t expect.  I spend a lot of time in this part of the city, and every time I walk by these impressive structures I notice some small detail that shows real thoughtfulness by whoever put it there.  This weekend in the city is the 10th annual Doors Open Toronto.  It’s an opportunity to get inside places that you wouldn’t normally have access to.  What a cool idea!  This year was the first time I was free to take advantage, and I’m so glad I did.  Here are just a few of my favourites from today.  Check out the soaring ceilings, beautiful light fixtures, and unique carvings that grace this part of Toronto in unusual places.

I fully recommend checking this out if you have the time to explore the city a bit tomorrow!
