Myanmar

I often get questions about how I first gained interest in photography, so I thought that it might be fun to share some of my history with you.  As some of you might know, I fell in love with my camera as I travelled over the years.  At different points in my life I had the opportunity to work and study in different countries around the globe.  As I went, I became more and more interested in bringing home images from each place I saw that would help me remember key moments, details, and atmospheres.  I wanted pictures that would help me remember how different places feel, and hopefully convey that experience to friends and family so that they could better understand where I’d been.

Myanmar, the South Asian country formerly known as Burma, was an incredible experience.  I visited in 2007 and it was unlike any place I’d ever been before, and I came home with hundreds of images that I was absolutely in love with.  Here are a few of my favourites from Mandalay, Inle Lake, Bagan and Yangon.

Burma is a riot of bright colours, jasmine, betel nut chewing, hot days, cold beer, dusty roads, and some of the friendliest people you could ever encounter.  It’s absolutely unlike any place I’d ever been, and remains relatively untouched by the outside world.  It’s a difficult place to visit, but so worth the effort.  Places like this made me fall head over heels in love with photography because I could never have found a better way to remember the amazing sights.  I hope you enjoy this little retrospective, and others that I’ll likely share in the future.  Travel is a big part of my life, and was what really helped me find my career.
